In his latest release, “Crenshaw Madness,” Tylo TinyAmp teams up with West Coast G-funk pioneers DJ Battlecat and the late Uncle Chucc for a collaboration that channels the spirit of Los Angeles and pays homage to the late, great, Nipsey Hussle.
The track is infused with both personal meaning and a sense of collective history. TinyAmp shares that DJ Battlecat, a mentor and “big brother,” initially crafted the beat for Nipsey—a blessing he took as an opportunity to make magic.
Reflecting on his favorite lyric, Tylo cites the line, “Crenshaw stretched from Wilshire to Torrance,” explaining that Crenshaw is not just a street—it’s the heart of LA. The song, steeped in nostalgia, captures the essence of community and family, with Tylo recalling the joy of a genuine family function during the park scene in the music video. “It felt like home,” he says, although he laments that Uncle Chucc isn’t here to receive the recognition for his contributions.
As an artist who has overcome past struggles, including time as an ex-convict, Tylo’s music tackles serious issues affecting the Black community. His 2022 release, “Great America,” featuring Skooly is another example of his bold commentary, with bars about COVID-19 mandates, “Karens,” and the viral crate challenges reflecting the current social climate. His music offers both a reflection of these challenges and a celebration of resilience, especially through the lens of West Coast culture.
Tylo’s rise to prominence is deeply intertwined with his entrepreneurial spirit. His Crenshaw By Nature brand continues to thrive, offering fans quality merchandise inspired by the same streets that shaped him. Looking ahead, Tylo plans to release new designs, visuals, and collaborations, including a highly anticipated track with Dom Kennedy, produced by Grammy-winner Don Cannon.
For Tylo, working with Battlecat and Uncle Chucc was an opportunity to honor Nipsey Hussle’s legacy, but it also became his own blessing. Crenshaw Madness isn’t just a song—it’s a tribute to LA, its legends, and the enduring spirit of the community that raised him.
