Who is K.A.?

Meet Kevin Anglade, better known as his stage name K.A. Originally from Brooklyn, he now lives in Philadelphia where he works on his music as well as other bodies of writing. His recent release of his debut album Cries of a Rose is a concept record about a young black man following his dreams of becoming a famous rapper so he can take care of his daughter but at the same time struggling to let go of his drug dealing past.

K.A. shares, “I hope to create a legacy and be remembered as an artist that dropped albums that were cinematic experiences for fans who truly appreciate entire bodies of work and like to get lost in a story.” Drawing inspiration from a variety of artists, such as Nas, Jay-Z, Marvin Gaye, and Frank Ocean to name a few, his sound can be described as a mixture of hip-hop and R&B. He hopes to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar as he aspires to expand his sound, release a couple mixtapes as well as tapping into a new audience for the new year. Ultimately his goal is to win a grammy for an album that will be self-produced by him in its entirety.

Admitting it has not been a smooth road, it has not been a hard one either. K.A. comes from a background of writing and performing his poetry work throughout New York, but has recently delved into his passion for music. He wants to tour and establish himself as an artist in the next five years, naming his late father as a big motivations to follow his dreams. “I think about all the sacrifices he made for my family and I while he was alive in terms of how hard he worked to put food on the table,” he shares with us as a big reason to grow into a better version of himself.

When not working on his music, he enjoys jogging and basketball. He is big on advocating for the expansion of knowledge and passing on new perspectives through books and art. Over the holidays he has helped with the soup kitchen in New York, giving back to the community as well as working at a detention center for juvenile boys in Connecticut to help them connect to their creativity.

As an independent artist, he strives to not only better his sound and artistry but to give a voice to underrepresented communities. His motto is, “Whatever you start, you finish.” and that is what it seems K.A. is focused on right now to release more of his music. “What I enjoy the most about being an artist is the chance to fully express myself and feel the music that I’m writing. To me, there’s no greater feeling,” he explains as he shares with us that his music is a good balance of these different elements of hip-hop, more importantly being able to tell a tale.
