Port Arthur’s Rising Star on Signing with Akon, Freestyling Hits & Leading Hip-Hop’s New Wave

In an industry where authenticity is often overshadowed by trends, Storye emerges as a refreshing force. Bold, honest, real and on the grind to success. Born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, this rising hip-hop artist carries the grit of her upbringing and the heart of a true storyteller. Raised by a single mother and shaped by life’s earliest hardships, Storye discovered her gift for songwriting as a child, turning pain, resilience, and self-discovery into powerful lyrical narratives.

Her journey, which began with passing out mixtapes at sixteen and grinding through the underground scene, eventually led her to Atlanta, where she carved out her name in one of the nation’s most competitive music hubs. In 2024, her career reached a pivotal moment when she officially signed with Akon’s label, Konvict Kulture. A full-circle milestone years in the making.

Known for her Southern lilt, melodic tone, and the raw emotional depth woven into every bar, Storye blends vulnerability and strength with rare honesty. Her music confronts addiction, loss, and survival, yet celebrates growth, empowerment, and self-awareness. Whether she’s delivering soulful harmonies or sharp-edged bars, Storye brings a level of realness that makes her unforgettable.

Now, with a viral hit, a growing fanbase, and a lead role in an upcoming film, Storye is stepping fully into her moment and she’s just getting started. In this exclusive interview with The Grind Magazine, she opens up about her roots, her inspirations, her breakout success, and why authenticity remains her greatest power.

Storye, your story is powerful. Let’s start at the beginning. Tell us about your background and how music first became part of your life.

Storye: I’m from Port Arthur, Texas which is right near Houston and Beaumont, close to the Louisiana border. I grew up in a single-parent home with my mom and my little brother. Life wasn’t easy, but those experiences shaped me. I started writing raps in elementary school. I remember sitting at my desk scribbling lyrics and passing them around. Music has been in me for as long as I can remember.

Who were your biggest influences growing up?

Storye: Tupac was and still is my favorite artist of all time. I had a crush on him when I was little, but beyond that, he was phenomenal. His heart, what he stood for, his storytelling, his lyricism… all of it inspired me. He spoke the truth, and I always respected that.

Do people ever compare your sound to any other artists?

Storye: People sometimes say I sound like Megan Thee Stallion or Nicki Minaj. I don’t think I sound like them, but I get it, especially with Megan. We’re both from Texas, so that Southern accent is definitely there.

Congratulations on signing with Akon’s label. How did that come about?

Storye: Thank you! I actually first signed with Akon back in 2016 when he had Akon Live Distribution. He took me under his wing early on and taught me a lot about the industry, even during the periods when he was busy with other global projects.

When he launched Konvict Kulture, I re-signed with him around 2024. I’ve been rocking with Akon for a long time. He’s been a wonderful mentor, and now it’s go-time.

Your record “Ain’t My Fault” has over a million views. What was the story behind that track and its music video?

Storye: My producer Press Play pulled up the sample of Silk the Shocker and Mystikal’s “It Ain’t My Fault.” I’ve always loved No Limit, so I vibed with it immediately.

Honestly, the song was basically a freestyle. I hopped in the booth and just talked my talk. It was fun, effortless energy.

The video followed the same vibe. It is a playful storyline where this girl is looking for us, ready to start drama. It matched the record perfectly.

Fans love your confidence and energy. What’s something people might not know about you?

Storye: I’m into film! I’m actually about to shoot a movie where I play the lead role. It’s directed by Manny Haley and Robert Slocum. The film is called “Save Her,” and my character’s name is Zoe. It’s a drama-thriller, and I can’t wait for people to see it.

That’s huge! And on the music side — what’s next?

Storye: We’re dropping back-to-back bangers. More singles, more features, and then an EP likely next year. It’s go time.

How do you feel about the current state of the music industry?

Storye: The females are running it. Period. Female rap is the hottest thing right now, and I love to see it.

Outside of music and acting, what else are you passionate about?

Storye: Music is my main focus, but I definitely want to get deeper into acting later. Long term, once I secure my bag, I want to give back and do philanthropy. Helping people and changing lives. That’s important to me.

What would you like to say to your day-one fans or new supporters?

Storye: I love y’all. Thank you for supporting me. Keep rocking with me because I’ve got a lot of amazing things coming. And never give up on your dreams.

What advice do you have for young women who want to get into the music industry but may be scared or unsure of themselves?

Storye: Be yourself. Authenticity is the highest frequency. When you’re true to you, everything else falls into place. And never give up. If you quit, you’ll never know what you could’ve been. Keep going.
