“I used to call myself Unorthodox , then just UN, then I switched to UnLearn because that to me was more of a message” Meet the artist that brings us back to the golden era of hip hop, Unlearn the World. Born and raised in Washington Heights, New York City, Unlearn the World knew from his teen years that he was going to be an inspiring Hip-Hop artist to many and now he is living out that dream. Likeliness to artists like Nipsey Hustle and Kanye West, Unlearn the World has been working his way up in the music industry and has been featured in having one of the top 50th albums of the year by Fantastic Hip Hop Blog for his album ‘Light Year. His most recent album “CROWNS” has a dope, classic feel to it and has tons of different features and producers on the tracks. From our recent interview with Unlearn the World, he talks more about his journey through the industry and all of his achievements. Get to know him below!
Where does your musical inspiration come from?
A: It comes from a lot of the self-work I’ve been doing my whole life to heal and give meaning to my upbringing and experiences; everything from spirituality to relationships, I find inspiration in all of it to create my art. It could be a cool song from a movie or even a dope party I went to, all of it is here for me to create art out of it and push people to think deeper.
What are your 2021 – 2022 career goals?
A: Big collaborations with some major artists, some amazing music videos, including a visual mixtape, and headlining a show with a live band. 2022 is going to be a legendary year and a milestone moment in my career. I’m getting all the stars to align soon.
Do you have any other desires or goals you would like to achieve?
A: Just to continue to build momentum, my movement is growing and I really feel I’m on the verge of something BIG. Stay tuned.
What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
A: The ability to create something out of nothing. The creative process is very much the story of Hip Hop. Young kids with little to nothing created the most important and impactful artistic movement of the 21st century. We have a culture that gives you the ability to literally think and speak your way into a new reality. I love that about Hip Hop. I love developing ideas into something that can make the world better.
Why should people listen to your music?
A: I think my music is refreshing. How much can you hear about twerking or shooting ops? There’s room for everybody in this culture, but I think the messages that get the most attention are hurting our people. We are continuing to glorify self-destructive lifestyle choices and behavior, but because there’s a lot of music money, and jewelry, we think it’s cool. We need to give more attention to artists who have unique stories and powerful messages. I believe my music does that. It’s a great blend of something meaningful that you can enjoy and have a good time with.
What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
A: Don’t follow in my footsteps, create your own.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
A: I love you all to death because your love saved my life. I’m grateful.
