Casondra Burkley, LCSW-S, M.Div, LSSGB, ADS, is more than a therapist and CEO, she is a living example of empowerment. As the founder of Conquering the Obstacles of Painful Experiences (C.O.P.E.), she has created a nationally recognized behavioral health organization that turns trauma into triumph through evidence-based therapy, emotional intelligence training, and faith-centered guidance. From surviving childhood poverty and sexual assault, with a rape kit left untested for over a decade — to becoming an award-winning mental health leader, ordained pastor, and acclaimed playwright, Casondra demonstrates that healing is not only possible but powerful. Her work provides a blueprint of hope for youth, families, and communities across Texas and beyond.
Do you believe in work-life balance? If so, how do you maintain it?
Casondra: Yes, I believe in work-life balance, but I also recognize that it looks different in each season of life. For me, balance is maintained through setting boundaries, giving myself grace, and being open to receive help and support when needed.
What would attract listeners to your personal story?
Casondra: The victory within it. Being raped at 16, finding out my rape kit wasn’t tested for over ten years and receiving a call 15 years later was devastating. I turned pain into purpose and used my obstacles as stepping stones. My story is one of perseverance, faith, and triumph over trauma.
What is your proudest business accomplishment?
Casondra: My proudest business accomplishment is taking the leap of faith to leave my full-time job. One year later, I’ve doubled my monthly gross income and built a business that allows me to shape the narrative of mental health and directly impact the lives of children and adults.
Why is the conversation surrounding mental health so important?
Casondra: Because too many people are silently struggling. Talking openly about mental health helps break the silence and shame that often prevent people from getting the help they need.
What strategies do you use to empower clients who have faced significant life challenges?
Casondra: I use cognitive restructuring and reframing techniques to help clients break free from mental blocks. Many who have faced trauma get stuck in negative patterns, and I apply trauma-informed care to guide them toward healing and forward movement.
